EHP AND NORWEGIAN FUNDS - PROJECT STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITY OF THE ASSOCIATION OF ROMA MUSIC ARTISTS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

 03/2022-06/2023

The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacities of our enterprise and at the same time the capacities of its members. This goal will be achieved by 30.06.2023:

  • media visibility our enterprise and its 13 members on the domestic and foreign music scene,
  • professionalization of professional and managerial services of 3 employees and 2 representatives our enterprise and 13 Roma music groups,
  • establishing international cooperation with a Norwegian partner in the field of music and transfer of international experience.

The project has 1 partner from Norway and 2 partners from the Czech Republic. Within the project will be implemented 5 project activities: media coverage of the association and its members, management in culture, international cooperation and exchange of know-how, management and publicity.

The target groups are:

  • primarily 3 employees of the association and 13 Roma music members of the association,
  • secondarily the general public in the Czech Republic and abroad,
  • the professional cultural community and Roma music and non-music artists (non-members of the association).

Project outputs:

  • 9 video clips,
  • online consultation with a Norwegian partner, coaching, lectures and a workshop,
  • the participation of the association and selected members abroad in Norway at the festival.

The innovation of the project consists in the fact that our enterprise, on the one hand, gathers experts in the field of PR, advertising, grant and subsidy consultancy, finance, music promotion, organizing cultural events, etc. with an interest in professionalizing Roma music artists and on the other hand with Romani music artists, who usually cannot find their way to these experts and need the services of these experts to develop their cultural activities.

We will implement the project in the Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian regions and in Norway, specifically:

Activity 1 (Media coverage of associations and their members) in the Olomouc region

Activity 2 (Management in culture) in the Moravian-Silesian region

Activity 3 (International cooperation and exchange of know-how) on the territory of Norway and the Olomouc Region. The scope of the Association of Roma Music Artists in the Czech Republic, z.s. will be on the whole territory of the Czech Republic.

The Association of Roma Music Artists in the Czech Republic and the social enterprise I Am The Sound make Roma musicians visible and support them

06/2023

Original article: https://romea.cz/cz/kultura/asociace-romskych-hudebnich-umelcu-v-cr-a-socialni-podnik-i-am-the-sound-zvidilenuji-a-podporuji-romske-hudebniky

The non-profit organization Association of Roma Music Artists in the Czech Republic, z.s., in main cooperation with the social enterprise I Am The Sound s.r.o. (formerly Ozvučovací agentura Serendipity s.r.o.), which employs people from the Roma community in the position of rigger (assistant stage worker), is trying to strengthen the capacities of the members of its association and attract other members thanks to the Strengthening the capacity of the Association of Roma Music Artists in the Czech Republic project.

In addition to strengthening the capacities of its members, the aim of the association is also to support them through media visibility and professionalization in the areas of sound, lighting, stages, LED and AV technology, marketing, PR and finance. The eight filmed video medallions are to help them with their PR presentation to the public, music critics, organizers of cultural events, music promoters and publicists in order to obtain orders both in the Czech Republic and abroad. For this, the association uses the advice and cooperation of a member of I Am The Sound s.r.o. as a professional technical supplier of supporting stage services (sound, lighting, LED and AV technology, stages) and technical implementer of many Roma festivals and cultural events.

The idea for the project also arose directly at one of them – in 2021 at the international Roma festival in Nové Jičín – Skalky. The technical director of I Am The Sound s.r.o., which technically organized the festival, Maxmilián Reichel and its marketing director Aleš Baran, agreed that the technical level and skills of the performing Roma artists and the organizers of the event deserved improvement and professionalization. As a partner of the festival, I Am The Sound provided professional technical security for the event – the high quality of the sound and visual appearance of the festival had a positive effect on the satisfaction of visitors and performers. This inspired both of them to found the Association of Roma Music Artists in the Czech Republic and to start a project that will help the members of the Association with their professionalization. The project is financially supported by the EEA and Norwegian funds.

Educational events and music festivals

Currently, the association, in addition to the social enterprise I Am The Sound s.r.o. brings together a number of musical Roma subjects. It organizes educational events, comes up with innovative projects, organizes music festivals, devotes itself to Roma culture – for now, targeting the Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian regions. In self-made video medallions, eight Roma artists and the association itself are represented. The artists were selected by a professional committee, the frontman of the Roma group Imperio, Milan Klempár, was in charge of coordination. The press conference was broadcasted on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@arhu_v_cr.

The project Strengthening the capacity of the Association of Roma Music Artists in the Czech Republic also has a partner in Norway – the association Kultur Bryter Grenser (Culture Break Borders) is a Norwegian non-governmental organization founded in 2014, which focuses on cross-border cultural cooperation between Norway and other countries. In addition to artistic and cultural projects with an emphasis on musical experiences at a high artistic level, the organization also focuses on human rights, democracy and civil society. It is an open organization for artists and creative producers in the field of arts and culture.

In addition to the trip to Norway, where representatives of the Association of Roma Music Artists in the Czech Republic went together with representatives of Roma artists to get to know the cultural scene there, the project implementers also organized two two-day seminars in the Czech Republic. In November 2022, the first of them took place in Lipník nad Bečvou, the second in February this year in Přerov. Their participants – mainly representatives of the Roma community, i.e. visitors to Roma cultural events, organizers or musicians – had the opportunity to learn about the activities of the Association of Roma Music Artists in the Czech Republic and the implemented project, including practical examples of supporting talented Roma musicians in the Czech Republic and Norway. , get acquainted with examples of musical creations by members of the Association or participate in discussions.

The implementers of the project Strengthening the capacity of the Association of Roma Music Artists in the Czech Republic, which ran from March 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, also thought from the beginning about its further continuation – a real close activity in the period of sustainability is to ensure for selected members of the association participation in cultural events in Norway – especially in Oslo – at cultural festivals and cultural engagements in private cultural enterprises.

The Association of Roma Music Artists looks for and supports Roma talents

05/2023

Original article: https://radiozurnal.rozhlas.cz/asociace-romskych-hudebnich-umelcu-hleda-a-podporuje-romske-talenty-8985660

The Association of Roma Music Artists in the Czech Republic is an association founded in 2021. Its goal is to help Roma musicians become professional. The association wants to increase awareness of Roma culture, Roma artists and increase involvement in the music and cultural industry in society. Dušan Vagai prepared an interview with Milan Klempár, one of the founders of the band Imperio, and with Markéta Bubik, the project manager of the project.

Markéta Bubik: “The goal of the association is to find, support and make amateur professional Roma artists visible. Artists can become visible on the Czech and Norwegian music scene. The project is supported by Norwegian funds in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance.”

How does it look in practice?

Markéta Bubik: “We organized two seminars, in Lipník nad Bečvou and in Přerov. The first one was attended by 100 interested people, the second by around 50. We presented them with our company and the possibilities of implementation on the music scene.”

Who makes up the sound agency team?

Markéta Bubik: “I am the project manager and there are a number of others, including Milan Klempár, who ensures the selection and evaluation of specific performers with whom the promotional medallions should then be filmed.”

Markéta Bubik: “The main entity is the Association of Romani Music Artists in the Czech Republic (https://www.youtube.com/@arhu_v_cr) and the associated sound agency SERENDIPITY s.r.o., which changed its name to I AM the SOUND two weeks ago. A company that offers technical background, i.e. Sound system, lighting, etc. It helps Roma festivals with technical security and realization of individual events.”

So the Association of Roma Music Artists is only for Roma?

Markéta Bubik: “Exactly. Its members are only Roma artists. They actually have very little information about how they could present themselves on the music scene. And we provide them with this basic information in the field of management, organization of events, and technical security.”

Does the information provided include awareness of what OSA is?

Markéta Bubik: “Also. The copyright association and Intergram. All information is available on our website www.arhuvcr.eu, or on the social networks Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.”

Mr. Klempar, how can the agency help artists?

Milan Klempár: “We created medallions for Romani artists in categories from 8 to 60 years old. These are individuals and bands, some have been active on the music scene for several years. Furthermore, we direct artists to Basic Art Schools and to further musical education. The motivation for many of them will also be shared medallions on our website, where fans will be able to find and listen to them.”

Milan Klempár: “An example can be the Gypsy Four Band, a young band from Prostějov, which will have its first concert on May 6, the next on May 13. They go to exams, they enjoy it, they have improved in school, which is my condition for them to function well in real life.”

For now, the project is aimed at the Olomouc and Moravian-Silesian regions. You can listen to the entire interview from the recording.
